GENKI Vocab for 3rd Ed. is a language learning app that allows users to learn over 1,200 essential words for beginners in elementary Japanese. Developed as the official iPhone app for the 3rd edition of GENKI: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese, which has sold over 2 million copies worldwide, this app offers a flexible and efficient approach to vocabulary acquisition.

Study methods and functions:
This app offers three main modes: Study, Check, and List.

Study:

 <li>All words and example sentences are accompanied by audio recordings featuring natural pronunciations from native Japanese speakers. (Please ensure your iPhone is set to Ring mode to hear the audio playback.)</li>
 <li>Fun illustrations are integrated to enhance retention of the studied words.</li>
 <li>Words of interest can be bookmarked for later reference. These bookmarked words are conveniently compiled in the "Bookmark" list within the app's "List" mode.</li>
</ul>

Check:
<ul>
 <li>This mode allows learners to assess their mastery of vocabulary.</li>
 <li>Users can test their understanding of the words and sort them into "mastered" and "not yet retained" categories.</li>
 <li>Words that have already been mastered are automatically removed from the study set, leaving only those that require further practice.</li>
</ul>

List:
<ul>
 <li>A comprehensive list of all words covered by the app is displayed in this mode, providing users with an overview of their progress and facilitating vocabulary review.</li>
 <li>The list can be sorted in three different orders: lesson order, a-i-u-e-o order (based on Japanese phonetic order), and alphabetical order.</li>
 <li>Words bookmarked during the Study mode are also included in the Bookmark list.</li>
 <li>Mastered words are indicated with checkmarks for easy identification.</li>
 <li>Quick review of word details from the Study mode is accessible directly from the list entries.</li>
</ul>

The app utilizes vocabulary from the third edition of GENKI and ensures a distraction-free learning experience by not displaying any ads that may interfere with studying.
